Creating Change – Project Overview
Doncaster West Development Trust has secured funding from The Henry Smith Charity to deliver a 3 year debt advice project that will support residents of Doncaster who are experiencing stress, anxiety and depression through money worries.
Creating Change will be available across the borough with a Support Worker providing one to one confidential and impartial advice including help with:
- Reviewing income and expenditure
- Prioritising payments
- Negotiation with creditors
- Benefit checks
- Budgeting skills and tips
- Access to affordable credit
- How to save money
The project will support each client to develop a personal action plan, and also provide them with a “Creating Change” advice pack to support and reinforce a change in debt habits and basic self-help techniques for dealing with anxiety and the impact of debt.
Creating Change will be delivered in the most deprived areas of Doncaster providing support to people through personalised advice and coaching. Our aim is to help people to:
- Identify personal issues leading to financial problems;
- Be empowered by creating specific tools and strategies to establish financial control;
- Take ownership of their debt problems by regaining control and to cope more effectively going forward;
- Avoid falling into high interest loans and illegal money lending.
Our Support Worker will work 30 hours a week and be based at The Terrace in Conisbrough, but will meet clients at appropriate and accessible locations across Doncaster. To make a referral please contact our office on 01709 866466 and we will arrange an appointment.
Service delivery will begin in July 2014 and end in June 2017 with the target of supporting 480 Doncaster residents throughout that time.
